Direct Support Professional

Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to provide high-quality care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our clients, promoting independence, and fostering a supportive environment. This role involves working closely with individuals in a Group Home setting.

Responsibilities

A Direct Support Professional has the important duty of, but not limited to:

  • Documenting and reporting all incidents and concerns directly to Supervisor

  • Following the policies and procedures of the home

  • Engaging in the care, training, and rehabilitation of the individuals of the home

  • Providing basic nursing care, personal care, and hygiene care

  • Administering medication as prescribed for the individuals of the home

  • Document daily progress of individuals

  • Have the ability to accompany the individuals of the home to any medical, dental, psychiatric appointments, and required social outings

  • Have the ability to assist and prepare meals daily; with general housekeeping duties

  • Assist and encourage the individuals to have appropriate communication, social skills, and behavior development

  • Willingness to participate with professional staff in the design and implementation of training and programmatic activities

  • Ability to observe the rights and personal dignity of others

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma/GED (Required) and at least 1 year of experience working with population (Required)

  • Valid Driver’s license with a good driving record history and your own reliable vehicle (Required)

  • Need to be comfortable with providing community outings with residents each week in your own vehicle

  • Ability to pass criminal/background checks; along with a Tuberculosis (TB) test

  • Ability to pass and maintain CPR/First Aid, Medicaid Waiver Certification, and Direct Support Professionals Core Competencies

  • Ability to meet physical demands of position

Hours

The selected candidate needs to choose a consistent schedule of 2-3 days weekly to work the following hours:

Monday-Friday: 3PM-9PM OR 2PM-9PM

**NO WEEKENDS**


Salary

$16.50 per hour

Do you have a valid driver's license AND your OWN vehicle to transport residents in?
Will you be able to reliably commute to Norfolk, VA 23502 for this job?
Do you have at least 1 year of experience helping individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities?
